Overcoming Obesity – A Personal Trainer’s Story
ISSA certified fitness trainer David Gluhareff helps others lose weight with his own story of
overcoming obesity.
Danville, VA – March 7, 2006 – A personal trainer for 10 years, David Gluhareff credits his career
as a fitness professional to his own personal weight-loss story. The process of losing 100
pounds, which he began at age 16, is what inspired him to start training others utilizing proper
nutrition, exercise, supplementation, rest and recover, and stress management. Today,
Gluhareff is sharing his story with the multitude of others that are seeking to lose weight and
get in shape.
His first book, “How I Lost 100 Pounds!”, originally written as a means of self-reflection, was
recently released in January 2006. “The goal of this book is to be motivating and inspiring to
others,” says Gluhareff, “and to show people who need to lose weight that it’s possible for them
to get their weight under control.” In his book, Gluhareff details the physical and emotional
barriers that he had to overcome in order to lose the 100 pounds in little over a year, along with
weight-loss tips and sensible easy-to-follow fitness concepts.
Although Gluhareff, lost most of his weight through diet and cardiovascular exercise, it was with
the addition of resistance training that he began the process of building muscle and found that
balance that is necessary for total fitness. His fascination with the changes he had produced in
his body led him to obtain certification from the International Sports Sciences Association
(ISSA). The knowledge he acquired in the process enabled Gluhareff to look back on what he
had initially done to lose weight, make corrections, and realize the best and most efficient
weight-loss and muscle building methods to better help others achieve their fitness goals.
Due to his history as being overweight and obese, Gluhareff is in the unique position of not only
being able to understand and correct his clients’ and readers’ health problems but to
empathize with the majority of his clients who come to him for weight-loss. Since he also trains
bodybuilders, racecar drivers, football, basketball and various other sports players for general
conditioning and proper nutrition, Gluhareff has expanded his ability to identify with his clients
by building more muscle. Having gone from one extreme to another, he has developed a good
understanding of what it feels like to be at different sizes and the effort it takes to go from obese
to lean, from lean to more muscular.
What does Gluhareff require in order to structure a client’s life for healthier eating and
exercising, and help them overcome their physical, mental, and emotional barriers?
Commitment. “I do not take Personal Training lightly,” says Gluhareff, “This is and has been a
serious profession for me and all of my many clients over the past 10 years. Our health is
serious business, especially when it comes to prevention tactics. Obesity is spreading around
the world very rapidly and is taking lives each day, so my job and that of other trainers is only
going to get busier and tougher.”
Even with his dedication to and passion for health and fitness, Gluhareff has never been a drill
sergeant with his clients – instead wanting them to feel comfortable enough with him that they
can be honest with him about their meals, workouts, stress levels, supplementation, rest and
recovery periods, and at the same time have fun and get results. “I hope readers of my book
become inspired and feel ready to take action against being overweight and obese.”
